At Principled Solutions we are actively involved in a variety of organizations that bring new opportunities and meaning to the lives of people around the world and at home.
The Riecken Foundation
In today’s knowledge-based world, the
Riecken Foundation provides poor communities with a priceless commodity:
information. The Foundation lays the framework for community-run
lending libraries with open stacks of books and free Internet access.
The success of the library network hinges on the active involvement of
local committees and volunteers.
Leadership training and community
service are key components of the Riecken library model. Signature
programs, including reading promotion, youth leadership workshops and
Internet research instruction, are supplemented by services customized
to meet local needs. For some communities, that means prenatal classes
and teen debate clubs. For others, it is carpentry workshops or
parenting classes.
The Riecken Foundation’s vision is to
use knowledge to open the door to individual opportunity, community
development and the positive transformation of developing nations.www.riecken.org
Miracles in Action
Our team of volunteers seeks out under served pockets of need in rural Guatemala and we research projects that focus on education, vocational training, and sustainable development (clean water, safe stoves, latrines, scholarships, nutrition centers, etc.). The Board of Directors of Miracles in Action then selects those projects that achieve long-term results, improve quality of life, and allow truly impoverished people to help themselves.www.miraclesinaction.org
Behrhorst Partners for Development
The mission of the Behrhorst Partners for Development is to strengthen and expand processes of community development and participation that enhance people's lives. It has two major goals:
- To support sustainable development initiatives that strive to improve the health and well-being of particularly vulnerable sectors of society.
- To promote through experience-based education an understanding of the principles of participatory community development and the conditions under which it is most effective.
This nonprofit organization's goal is to work in respectful partnership with Mayan Guatemalans to have a positive impact on the problems associated with Guatemala's history of violence against indigenous populations, natural disasters, poverty, illiteracy and disastrously high rates of infant and maternal death.www.behrhorst.org
Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA
Celebrating over 50 years helping animals and the people who care for and about them, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is San Mateo County's largest animal welfare organization. Major programs include adoption, wildlife rehabilitation, education, and advocacy, community outreach, and animal control, including rescue and investigation. Generous gifts of time, resources and funds enable us to reach more people, treat more sick and injured animals and create more happy endings.http://www.peninsulahumanesociety.org
Vamos Adelante

WINGS (Women's International Network for Guatemalan Solutions)
Also a 501(c)(3) organization WINGS was created to help impoverished Guatemalans, particularly women, obtain family planning services and reproductive health care - out of reach for many due to lack of knowledge, and financial and physical limitations. Founded by a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer in 1999 WINGS provided family planning assistance to over 5000 families in 2003.www.wingsguate.org
